Dave Ramsey's 7 Baby Steps list:
- Save $1,000 starter emergency fund.
- Pay off all debt except for the mortgage.
- Save 3-6 months of living expenses for an emergency fund- in a liquid, easy-access account, like checking, savings, or money market.
- Invest 15% of household income into a pre-tax or tax advantage account retirement fund, like a 401K or Roth IRA.
- Save for your children's college fund or niece/nephew if you don't have kids. Use something like a 529 plan
- Pay off your Home early.
- Giving (charities, faith organizations, etc.).
